What We Say

What is it:

Taken from the Valeting Products website, VP Cherry Glaze is a Cherry Scented No Dust, No White Marks, Non-abrasive, Easy To Use Polish.

VP Cherry Glaze is will typically last around 2 months on regularly used cars kept outside, providing a Stunning long lasting, wet look Carnauba based protection.

How we tested it:

We acquired a 500ml bottle of Cherry Glaze for the bargain price of £4.99 to put through its paces on two different donor vehicles, one of black paint and the other a mid grey. We looked at what is primarily expected of a quality glaze - the gloss enhancement and filling/masking capabilities as well as the claims of protection from the product and its general ease of use.

We Liked:

  • Great value coming in it at half the cost of many rival products.
  • Despite the price, the presentation of the product is still good with a quality feel to the packaging and design.
  • Smells great and spreads across the panel evenly.
  • Enhances gloss on the vehicle with a definite difference made on our test vehicle between glazed and unglazed areas.

We Didn’t Like:

  • No real filling properties of the glaze. Despite increasing gloss, we didn’t really see any swirling masked by the glaze.
  • Quite a grabby product particularly on removal where we found it a little tacky and smeary even on a thin application.
  • No real protective properties of note despite 2 month claim of carnauba based protection. There was little to no evidence of this.

Overall:

A difficult product to assign a score to.In terms of the description from the manufacturer, the product does enhance the gloss of the vehicle with no dust residue and for the most part is easy to use so a tick in this box. From the perspective of most users understanding of the category of glaze, we feel many will be expecting far greater filling properties from the product. On the back of the trialling, we even ran some research with the professional valeting and detailing association into the most important properties for a glaze of whom the 14 respondents all claimed filling capabilities the most important. Our biggest disappointment was the protection claims, we didn’t expect a glaze to do this as its not what you expect of a glaze, reflected in our research with zero respondents expecting a glaze to protect but with VP claiming 2 months of protection it was disappointing to see it fall flat here. Overall, a good value gloss enhancer that may suit those looking for a non abrasive “extra” but we feel many will be left wanting more.
