What is it?

A synthetic paint sealant originating from Japan and sourced mainly from the good guys at Nippon Shine, Fusso has taken the detailing world by storm. You only have to go on any detailing community on Facebook or the like and you will see Fusso constantly mentioned and recommended. There are two variations of the product, dark and light for respective paint types though both are fine to use on any paint. Coming in a large tin, complete with an applicator, the product is best purchased through Nippon Shine themselves as there are many fakes doing the rounds on ebay.

How we Tested it?

We have used two containers worth of Fusso Dark on a variety of customer vehicles as well as using on our own personal vehicle so have been able to really get to know the product and assess its durability.

We Liked:

• Well presented product with funky Japanese packaging which immediately makes you want to use it.
• Very easy to apply, the product spreads like butter and only a very thin layer is required.
• A little certainly goes a long way, a home user will get years from one tin of the product.
• Leaves a lovely smooth finish on the paintwork and as it is a sealant, you can then top the product with a wax to enhance and protect the finish further.
• Great durability. We got 5-6+ months on our personal vehicle from Fusso with clear beading and sheeting throughout. Even after 6 months, it was still clinging in there and protecting just not as obviously.

We Didn’t like:

• We had a lot of issues with the product on dark paint leaving a greasy, streaky shadowing in the paint that required polishing to remove and reapplication. For a while, we were actually reluctant to use the product because of this and as such got in touch with Nippon shine who recommended wetting the applicator and applying very thin coats. Whilst this cured the issue, it is not in the instructions and needs to be.
• Greasy feel on paint will not appeal to all, nor will the chemical smell of the product.
• Applicator is terrible, coarse and could inflict surface marring. Use it for something like tyre dressings and use a much softer applicator with the product.

Overall:

It’s easy to see why Fusso has taken the detailing world by storm. At between £20-25 for a very generously sized tin and superb durability that can be topped with a wax of your choice, it is a very capable product.However as an overall product work is needed. This could be due to the language barrier regarding instructions but the fact we had to contact Nippon Shine to find out how to use the product correctly was disappointing. With similar products on the market claiming the same levels of durability this needs addressing or sales could be lost to rivals.
