What is it?

The NextBase 422GW dashcam is developed with quality materials, giving it a premium look and feel with excellent quality images. It also has Alexa features for playing music, finding directions and checking the weather - and it has revolutionary safety features, such as the Emergency SOS facility which notifies the emergency services if you are involved in an accident.

It records videos and takes still images at 1440p quality, which is very good. Using the Alexa link with your Smartphone, it can also make calls and send messages on the move. The dashcam's intelligent parking mode automatically records physical movements and bumps when the vehicle is unattended.

It is fitted with a 6G glass lens for capturing extra details such as number plates and road signs - and is one of the easiest dashcams to set up and mount, because of its strong adhesion to the windscreen and quick-release magnetic mount. The 2.5" IPS touchscreen display is very responsive to the touch, and has a bright and clear display.

The Emergency SOS feature is an improvement over earlier models. If you are involved in an accident, the emergency services are quickly notified. You can also share crucial information such as your car model, number plate and location. In addition to this, you can elect to also share important medical data such as allergies and blood type etc.

Connectivity is great, with both Bluetooth and Wifi being built-in. When starting your car, your previously paired device connects in seconds. This allows you to easily view and download recordings and still images.

The field of view of this dashcam is wide enough to cover the entire windscreen, meaning it captures anything visible in front of your vehicle - and it can be easily upgraded too add a rear-facing camera too. 

What we liked:

• The dashcam is easy to set up and mount, with a very strong mounting magnet
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections
• The dashcam starts recording on default upon starting your car (providing your cigarette lighter socket is switched on with the ignition)
• It offers high-resolution recording, 1440p @ 30 FPS
• The choice of add-ons (rear window camera, polarizing filter, rear-view and cabin-view cameras)

What we disliked:

• The dashcam can drain your car battery, if it isn't powered off automatically when you park and leave your vehicle
• Relatively slow Wi-Fi transfer rates
• As with most other modern dashcams, you have to use a class 10 U3 micro SD card. Older cards - even class 10 ones - won't be up to the job with this model.
