Flex XC 3401 VRG Machine Polisher Review

img-1
With its combined random orbital and rotary movements, the FLEX XC 3401 VRG Positive Drive Orbital Polisher offers virtually the same level of cutting performance as a traditional rotary polisher, but with none of the usual risks. For example, thanks to the random orbital movement, frictional heat is generated more slowly, meaning that the chances of overheating or burning the paint is minimised.

What We Say

What is it:

Description taken from Polished Bliss - stockist of the the Flex machine; With its combined random orbital and rotary movements, the FLEX XC 3401 VRG Positive Drive Orbital Polisher offers virtually the same level of cutting performance as a traditional rotary polisher, but with none of the usual risks. For example, thanks to the random orbital movement, frictional heat is generated more slowly, meaning that the chances of overheating or burning the paint is minimised.

How We Tested it:

We own the Flex machine and have done now for approaching 12 months. Ample time to form a view on the full range of capabilities of the machine. As with any machine polisher we have largely looked at the most important factors of cutting and refining ability and ease of use. We have also looked in depth at the versatility of the machine and the value it offers.

We Liked:

  • Forced rotation combined with dual action movement allows for a real sense of control over the machines cutting and refining. Real feel for the controllable aggressiveness of the machine.
  • Cuts as well as any machine we have used. Can tackle the hardest of paint and defects.
  • Refines with the best of them. Simple pad and product changes and being mindful of pressure will see a flawless finish easily achieved.
  • Responds well to pressure to increase cut or less pressure when refining needed.
  • Forced rotation allows for cutting on awkward angles without the machine bogging down and without fear of overheating due to dual action.

We Didn't Like:

  • Quite a loud machine.
  • Vibrations are quite strong from the machine, we would recommend as with all machines taking regular breaks to help combat white finger potential.

Overall:

Whether you are a professional user or a first time polisher, you will find yourself getting to grips with the flex very quickly indeed. The machine is so refined that it makes making mistakes with it or inflicting holograms in paint actually more difficult achieve than not and has a real high quality feel to its build and mechanisms. We love how on any paint system, it will cut and refine with simple pad changes and with the use of pressure, add that extra cut other dual action machines can't get close to and safely. Since owning the flex we are yet to find a task that is beyond the capabilities of the machine and for this reason its relatively high price point suddenly looks a lot more of a no brainer. We genuinely believe this is the best machine polisher on the market today.
