Autoglym Bumper and Trim Gel Review

The unpainted external plastic and rubber surfaces on your car can fade over time from a deep black to a washed out grey. Bumper & Trim Gel restores the original colour and leaves a glossy water repellent film.

The gel does not contain colouring or dye so can be used to restore all unpainted plastics to their original colour.

Use on external plastics, vinyl and rubber, including moulded plastic bumpers, grilles, mirror cases, mouldings, wheel arch trims, door handles, vinyl roofs, rubber bumpers, spoilers and mud flaps.

Pro Tip: Bumper & Trim Gel can also be used on rubber door seals in winter to prevent sticking in freezing weather.

What We Say

Autoglym Describe the product as follows:

How we Tested it?

This has been on the market for years and was one of the first exterior dressings we used. We still stock a bottle on our shelf as it is a product with multiple uses but how does it stand up against competitors? We put it to the test on a range of levels of faded trim.

We Liked:

  • We love the thick gel consistency of the product as it can easily be dispensed on to an applicator and easily control where it is applied with little waste.
  • A small amount goes an awful long way.
  • Leaves a nice deep rich finish on most kinds of trim. Particularly good on textured trim and around mirror surrounds.
  • Unlike any other product we have used and for that reason alone, it has its place as it is capable of that which others cannot.

We Didn't like:

  • Difficult to apply on tight fiddly areas such as honeycomb grills as the thick gel can only really be applied on a small swab type applicator taking ages.
  • Doesn't last particularly long. It is a product that is worth applying, curing and then protecting.
  • Really pricey! Small bottle that while economical is highly priced.

Overall

It's hard to justify the price compared to rivals, yet we still keep purchasing it. This says something in itself. The selling point of the product is also its downfall however. While the thick gel allows for controlled applications, It's only really on easy to access trim, for fiddly trim you will likely need a second product alongside Autoglym. We wish it lasted longer as it would be a benchmark product if it did though the speed of application does mean that it isn't really a chore to apply frequently.
