What We Say

What is it:

Neatly presented in a small metal container and wrapped in cellophane inside, Auto Prefection themselves describe this as a Fine - grade clay bar designed to be used for regular maintenance. This fine clay bar is gentle enough that it will not mark or mar your paintwork, but strong enough to remove contaminants, leaving your paintwork feeling smooth as glass.

How we Tested it:

We have used three of these clay bars now, totalling 9 vehicles as we divided each clay bar into thirds. We have observed how the clay responds using just water, water and shampoo mix and dedicated clay lubrication. We looked at how well the bar picked up surface contamination and how safe the bar was in terms of surface marring as our two key areas of focus.

We Liked:

• Excellent value. 80g of Clay for under £4 makes this one of, if not the best, value clay bars on the market today.
• Very well presented. The case is both stylish and useful for storing clay before, during and after use.
• Effectively removes surface contamination using a water shampoo mix as lubricant.
• You can easily do a medium sized vehicle of moderate contamination with 14 - 13 of a bar making it even greater value.
• We have only noticed very minimal marring, to be expected with all clay.

We Didn't Like:

• Can struggle with heavier contamination. A medium grade bar would be a welcome addition.
• One of the tougher clays we have used to fold and remould. Requires a fair bit of warming in your hands before you do so.

Overall:

The fact we now have 3 bars on our workshop shelf of this clay should tell you how highly we rate it. For general contamination removal it is hands down the best value, genuinely good performer available on the market. We are big fans of Bilt Hamber clay and will continue to use this for heavier contamination but overall we have to say we prefer the Auto Prefection entry. We get frustrated and achy hands from remoulding but when you can clay your vehicle for around £1 a time, you can easily accept this and the results speak for themselves.
