What We Say

What is it?

The Audew Cordless Hand Held Air Compressor is a fairly new product from Audew that means you can now inflate your vehicle tyres without wires.

The 120w cordless tyre pump has a similar appearance to a cordless drill with an LCD screen on the rear and a connectable hose on the front. It has a trigger button (again, much like a cordless drill) which can be locked using the lock button on either side that you slide either way to either lock or unlock.

It claims to be able to inflate an average sized flat tyre in around 2 minutes

With it being a cordless pump, it obviously comes with a battery that you will need to pre-charge - it's advised that this is not left connected to the device when not in use as it will draw current from the battery and mean that at the important time you come to use it you find it drained completely. However, it does come with a separate battery unit that has a 12v cigarette plug coming from it meaning that if required you can use it as a wired device.

It currently retails at around £50.

How we tested it?

We have tested it over a number of weeks on various sized tyres to see how it reacts in all situations.

We Liked:

  • Seems to inflate the tyres fairly quickly as promised
  • There is an LED light giving you some light when trying to inflate tyres in low light
  • The LCD screen allows you to preset your tyre pressure and the pump will keep going until it's inflated sufficiently.
  • It comes with a wired battery pack, which in the worst case scenario you haven't charged the battery (or it's died), you can still use it like a conventional corded pump.

We didn't like:

  • I guess it's only, and biggest, let down is the quality feel of it, it feels fairly cheap, in fact the rear did come detached when testing, however it did clip back on fairly easily.
  • The wording on the box needs some work, and a good spell check!

Overall:

So, for the money are cordless tyre pumps really worth it over your conventional corded tyre pump? I'm not sure. I would imagine in certain cases such as if you own a caravan or a trailer where the cable may not reach easily then it would be useful, but in 90% of cases you're going to be in the vicinity of a vehicle where you can plug it in. This isn't a reflection on this Audew device, but of cordless pumps in general.

If you're in the market for a cordless tyre pump then it's a good unit, the battery appears to hold it's charge when not left plugged into the pump when not in use and will inflate up to 4 tyres without issues, but the only thing that lets it down is how cheap it feels. Whether you can find a better quality cordless pump for the money, we'll keep an eye out!
